Services set up to recycle Christmas trees in Hertmere

Borehamwood and Radlett people are being asked to protect the environment by recycling their Christmas trees and cards.

Hertsmere Borough Council will be shredding Christmas trees for compost next month and is asking residents not to put Christmas cards in the blue or brown bins.

Instead trees can be taken to The Venue in Elstree Way on January 6 and cards can be taken to Hertsmere Civic Offices to be recycled throughout next month.

Councillor Jean Heywood, who is responsible for environmental policy, said: "Many people are involved in recycling throughout the year and at Christmas time we all have extra waste - around 30 per cent more - so we are trying to make it as easy as possible for people to recycle all those extras.

"So when all the celebrations are over, please spare a little time to recycle all you can."
