A Borehamwood businessman will be taking tea with Chancellor George Osborne at Dowing Street.

Danny Lezer, who is business development manager at FireStarToys will be attending the event on Friday to mark the launch of the first Small Business Saturday.

The Government-backed initiative, which takes place this Saturday, is aimed at encouraging shoppers to ditch the super stores in favour of local, small, independently owned shops.

FireStarToys, based in Elstree Road in Borehamwood offers personalised Lego figurines and since it was first launched it has gone from strength to strength.
Despite only having five employees, the quirky company sells thousands of Lego figurines each month to customers and clients from around the world.

In September, the company was named as one of the top 100 firms in the country and used to promote the imitative.

Commenting on the invitation, Mr Lezer said: “It’s a huge honour to have received the invite.
It’s an opportunity a small business rarely gets.

“2013 has been an amazing year for us; we’ve seen our sales increase, won awards and even taken on two apprentices.

“Tea with the Chancellor is a rather odd and unique way to end the year, but it’s the icing on what’s been our best year yet and hopefully 2014 will be even better.”

He added Small Business Saturday marked a shift back to towards businesses that “genuinely care about their customers.”

FireStarToys, which is online only store, has issued a discount code to be used on Saturday to encourage customers to shop and save money.

The company will donate £1 every time the voucher is used to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, which cares for terminally ill children and their families across north London.

Mr Lezar added: “We've already been supporting Noah’s Ark by having families come to spend the day with us and this was our way of spreading the benefit of Small Business Saturday to them as well, especially at Christmas. “
