Elstree and Borehamwood Youth Council plants host of golden daffodils at railway station

A railway station will be a blaze of yellow in the spring after young people got their hands dirty planting bulbs.

Volunteers from Elstree and Borehamwood’s Youth Council worked with the Elstree and Borehamwood Rotary Club to plant daffodil bulbs at the railway station as part of the continuing First Impressions project.

The First Impressions project has been developed by Hertsmere Borough Council, Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council, Hertfordshire County Council, First Capital Connect and volunteer group Elstree Screen Heritage to improve the appearance of the town while reminding people of its rich film heritage.

Chairman of the Youth Council Darcy Elliman said: “We can't wait to see the bulbs in the spring and are looking forward to help improve more of our local area.”

Next year members of the Youth Council will take turns to continue to water, weed and prune the area around the station to continue to keep the station forecourt looking nice.

President of the Rotary Club Cynthia Barker, said: “We’re always happy to support such community activities.

"I’m sure that the work of the team from the Youth Council on Sunday morning will result in a lovely display in the spring.”

While they wait for the bulbs to bloom, the young people will work with First Impressions to identify other public spaces which would benefit from some tender loving care in 2014, the centenary of film-making in Borehamwood.
