Hurricane-force winds and driving rain have wreaked havoc with the borough’s transport system this morning.

 The much-anticipated St Jude’s storm Borehamwood in the early hours of this morning, leaving trees uprooted and train services in turmoil.

While the capital appeared to largely be spared the storm’s full impact, the turbulence has caused severe delays and suspensions on tube and overground train services.

First Capital Connect Services have been cancelled until further notice.

Emergency services have been responding to calls involving fallen trees, damaged buildings and injured motorcyclists since yesterday.

Borehamwood Fire Station Crew Commander Eddie Barker is warning people to stay safe during the storm.

He said: “I’d urge people to use common sense and only travel where absolutely necessary.

“Remove all lighting objects from the garden and stay indoors until the winds die down.”
