A St Albans man has been jailed after breaching his ASBO in the city centre.

Richard O’Sullivan, 50, breached his ASBO on four occasions this month which included being abusive and threatening to the emergency services, assaulting a police officer and lying on the pavement intoxicated, Hatfield Remand Court was told on Tuesday (July 16).

O’Sullivan, of Swallow Lane in St Albans, was given a total of 26 weeks imprisonment for the breaches.

St Albans Neighbourhood Inspector Mark Loveday said: "O’Sullivan continued anti-social behaviour within the city of St Albans has been unacceptable and he has caused both residents and business significant distress.

"We have worked hard with St Albans City and District Council to gain an order to prevent him from being able to continue this behaviour.

"We will continue to be robust in dealing with any breaches - and his prison sentence for these four breaches should send a clear message that we work tirelessly to ensure that we bring anti-social behaviour offenders to justice.

"We will not tolerate individuals behaving in a manner which is detrimental to the quality of life of people who live in and visit St Albans."

The two-year anti-social behaviour order was given against O’Sullivan in June preventing him from entering the pharmacy at the Cell Barnes shopping parade, consuming alcohol in the town, sitting or lying on any pavement or road, in any doorstep or inside any shop.

The ASBO also banned him from making 999 calls other than in an emergency and using abusive language or behaviour towards members of the emergency services or staff at St Albans City hospital.
