A man is celebrating an unusual feat after passing his driving test without a single fault.

Jim Gladwish, 29, of Borehamwood, had put off learning to drive because he was afriad he would fail.

However the gardener surprised himself and his instructor by passing first time without even a minor fault.

His instructor Gary Fuller, who runs I-Passed driving school in St Albans said: “I was sitting in the back watching Jim drive and started thinking to myself this is going really well, he has not put a foot wrong.

"I've been a driving instructor for 20 years and most people pass with nine minors.

"This is only the second time in my whole career one of my pupils has passed with no minors at all."

Mr Fuller added Mr Gladwish had almost gone from "hero to zero" after he forgot to turn off his windscreen wipers.

He said: "It was a strange day with rain one minute and bright sun the next. As the sun came back out and the rain stopped the wipers started to squeak on the windscreen I was sitting there thinking 'Please don't fail just for leaving the wipers on.'

"Thankfully he turned them off just in time."

Mr Gladwish's achievement is made even more impressive as statistics shown to the Borehamwood Times earlier this year reveal only 49 per cent of people who took their test on the Borehamwood route in 2011-2012 actually passed.

Mr Gladwish was modest about his success, adding "a pass is a pass."

He said: "Gary really put me at ease and gave me the confidence to believe in myself.

"I really did not expect to drive faultlessly on my test but I am delighted that I did.

"I really do not think I would have passed without Gary’s help”.

He added: "My lack of a driving licence was holding me back. Now I can move my career to the next level. I've already bought a van."
