A school principal is cycling 360km across three countries to raise money for people with autism.

Jo Galloway, principal of Radlett Lodge School which teaches children with autism, set off on her three-day adventure from London to Brussels today.

She hopes to raise £1,400 for the National Autistic Society (NAS) which runs Radlett Lodge.

Ms Galloway, who joined the school 12 years ago, said: “Autism is a spectrum condition which means that each of the children we teach is affected differently. This can make finding ways of reaching each individual quite challenging but when you do manage to unlock them, it’s so rewarding.

“I’m still astounded each day by how much our pupils can achieve with the right help and support. I just can’t imagine doing anything else with my life.

Jo added: “Events like London to Brussels play a dual role of spreading awareness of autism and raising funds which can be used to support our pupils. Fundraising allows us to purchase additional therapeutic resources, like sensory toys, which can make a huge difference to our pupils.”
