Nursery children brought their smiles and warmth to elderly residents of a care home for a morning of singing and dancing.

Knight’s Court care home in Edgware was visited by children from the Nagila nursery, based in Stonegrove, to kick off this year’s Mitzvah Day weekend.

Tomorrow (November 27) marks Mitzvah Day, which is a Jewish day of charity where participants donate time to social action, rather than their money.

Children from Nagila sang nursery classics like ‘You Are My Sunshine’ and ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It’ for the residents in High Street, Edgware.

Everyone held hands and enjoyed a chat after the festivities calmed down.

Manager of Nagila nursery Milissa Siler said: “It’s just a small thing we can do for Mitzvah Day, it gets the children involved in doing some good and brings more joy to the lives of the residents.

“Even the parents are doing their Mitzvah, which is a Jewish act of giving and charity, by bringing their children along to the morning and joining in.”

Green t-shirts are likely to be seen all over Barnet as the Jewish community pulls together to help those of all faiths in need for this year’s Mitzvah Day tomorrow.
