'Grindr serial killer' Stephen Port, who raped and killed Middlesex University, Hendon, student Anthony Walgate, of Golders Green, gets life in jail

The killer of four young men, one of whom lived in Golders Green, will serve a whole life sentence for their murder, as well as the sexual assault of seven other victims.

Stephen Port, a chef from Barking, was found guilty of 22 different offences at the Old Bailey on Wednesday (November 23) and he was sentenced on Friday (November 25).

The 41-year-old used gay dating services such as Grindr to ensnare his victims, who would then be plied with a date rape drug and sexually assaulted while unconscious.

One of the four men he killed was Anthony Walgate, a 23-year-old student originally from Hull but living in Golders Green.

Colindale man Yathukulan Paskaramoorthy jailed for four years after raping student in Tiger Tiger night club, Haymarket

A man found guilty of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old who had only been in the UK for four days has been jailed for four years.

Yathukulan Paskaramoorthy, of Kingsbury near Colindale, followed the student as she attempted to exit Tiger Tiger, a night club in Haymarket, and attacked her when she was alone around 1.30am on September 17.

The 33-year-old had pleaded guilty to the attack and was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday (November 23).

Teenager dies five days after being stabbed by gang near Tube station

A teenager who was stabbed near to South Harrow Underground Station has died.

Hussein Ahmed, 19, from Edgware, was pronounced dead on Wednesday (November 23) after life-support was turned off.

The teenager was riding his bicycle on Northolt Road before he was attacked by an armed gang outside a kebab house on Friday.

A 17-year-old male also sustained a minor laceration to his abdomen during the incident. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

Metropolitan police give all clear to bomb scare in Finchley Central

Police have issued an all-clear after roads were closed and offices were evacuated to investigate a "suspicious vehicle".

Before 10am on Thursday (November 24), Metropolitan police officers and London Fire crews cordoned off Ballards Lane, near Finchley Central station, to check out a suspected bomb.

Northern line service to Finchley Central station was shut down for “security checks” while crowds gathered in the street, many taking photographs and tweeting about the incident.

Colindale man Horatiu Sbughiu sentenced to four years jail at Harrow Crown Court for internet shopping fraud

A Colindale man who committed 201 incidents of internet shopping fraud valued at almost £400,000 has been jailed for four years.

Horatiu Sbughiu, of East Drive, was one of a group of four who set up false adverts and websites to con unwitting customers into handing over bank details.

The 32-year-old was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court last Friday (November 18) alongside Cristian Nicolaescu of Redbridge for conspiracy to commit internet shopping fraud and possession of a laptop for use in fraud.

Janina Nuta, of Highfield Avenue, Golders Green, found guilty of crimes as part of gang profiting from prostitution and human trafficking

A Golders Green woman who was part of a gang profiting from prostitution and human trafficking has been jailed.

Janina Nuta, of Highfield Avenue, was found by police at a house in Paddington on April 28 as part of an investigation into the gang’s activities, where she was managing 105 mobile phones ringing intermittently.

Upon arrest, she was charged with controlling prostitution for gain, arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with view to exploitation and conceal, disguise, transfer or remove criminal property.

Mothers, with support of councillors, push petition to reopen mother and baby clinic at East Barnet Health Centre

A group of mothers has promised they “will never give up the fight” to get a baby clinic at their local health centre.

East Barnet Health Centre shut down in June 2014 for refurbishment and reopened later without its long-lived mother and baby clinic, which was run by NHS health visitors on the site for twenty years.

Charlotte Gosling, who took her four-year-old son Jaydon to the clinic when he was younger, has started an online petition to the NHS asking for the centre to reopen a clinic, which has almost 300 signatures.
