Under-fire Leicester boss Russell Martin was furious at his side’s failure to kill off 10-man Barnsley.
The Foxes had to settle for a 1-1 draw, despite having a man advantage for more than an hour after the sending-off of Luca Connell.
Liam Cullen opened the scoring for Leicester, but Reyes Cleary snatched a point for the Reds in the second half and indeed the hosts, who defended resolutely, came close to winning it through Patrick Kelly in added time.
Martin said: “I’m just so frustrated we didn’t win the game. I’m so disappointed.
“It’s such a brilliant chance today to have back-to-back wins.
“We scored an amazing first goal.
“We played some really brilliant football in the first half, even against 11 men.
“We should put the game to bed. We had so many chances and then the one mistake cost us.”
The Leicester fans who travelled to South Yorkshire booed the players and Martin off at full-time.
He added: “I think it (winning) would have made everyone feel a bit better and would have energised people. But we haven’t done it.
“It’s a missed opportunity for everyone – the players, us, the fans, to feel good going into the break.”
Leicester went ahead in the seventh minute when Luke Thomas found space on the wing and put the ball on a plate for Cullen to score from five yards out.
Connell was shown a straight red card by referee Sebastian Stockbridge in the 26th minute after his challenge on Thomas was deemed to be reckless.
Despite the setback, Barnsley deservedly levelled as Cleary powered a shot into the roof of the net in the 61st minute after a sloppy pass from Warren O’Hara allowed Arley Kay to play the winger through on goal.
Barnsley head coach Daniel Stendel was full of praise for the attitude of his team.
Stendel said: “This fire, this passion, this mentality, it’s for me more than a win today.
“We worked hard and we played against the best team in possession in this league with a player less for 75 minutes.
“We delivered a fight on the pitch.
“I think the draw is positive for us.”
Stendel said he did not know if Connell’s red card was fair but was pleased with the reaction.
He added: “My feeling was that it was a hard tackle, but I could see the ball leaving in the direction he tried to play.
“But the nearer to the situation and he said it was a red card.
“It was hard for us, but we could not change it, we could only react to it and we did that really well.”
