Borehamwood 2000 2
Whetstone Pumas 1
Watford Friendly League U15 Challenge Cup final

Hertfordshire County Cup champions Borehamwood 2000 U15's completed the double on Sunday by winning the Watford Friendly League Challenge Cup with a 2-1 victory over Whetstone Pumas.

Wood started the game brightly with some quick passing moves and were unlucky not to score within the first few minutes of the half with chances from Jon Clements and Robert Watson.

Both teams worked hard in the midfield and defensive areas of the pitch resulting in both teams coming in goalless at the break.

In the second half Wood stepped up the pace of the game and continuously put the Whetstone defence and goalkeeper under pressure.

Wood eventually broke the deadlock from a Mitchell Knight free-kick from outside the area, which was powered in by Trevor Stevens just outside the six-yard box.

A few minutes later, Whetstone equalised when Wood's defence failed to clear a cross from the right, which the Whetstone attacker converted at the back post. Both teams continued to push forward looking to get that important winning goal.

In the 88th minute, Wood were awarded a free-kick 30 yards from goal, which Knight hit to the back post. It was met by William Corbett who powered the ball into the back of the net with a superb header.

Wood then shut up shop and defended the remainder of the game until the final whistle.

There were excellent performances from Alfie Plumb, Chay Cole, Lewis Pelling, James Smith, Josh Rolls, Laurence Rispoli, John Heyfron and Albie Morris.

Manager Paul Smith said: "When I joined this team two seasons ago I could see the potential this team had.

"And with the help and support of the coaches Dean Knight and Jim Howard, we have now made them into a strong and skilful footballing unit and the players have now been rewarded for all their hard work and effort this season."
