Despite suffering a defeat Wood can hold their heads high after a strong performance against First Division Watford's reserve side at Meadow Park on Monday.

The Hornets' Canadian striker Elliott Godfrey bagged four goals against the Meadow Park men watched by a bumper crowd of around 400.

Early on Wood keeper Clint Drake punched out a shot from Watford's Anthony McNamee, and after just nine minutes Jimmy Oshin shot Wood into the lead with a terrific goal.

Watford then moved up a gear, and made several good attacks on Wood's goal, thwarted by Clint Drake.

Godfrey scored Watford's equaliser in the 65th minute, and the game went into a nail-biting period of extra time.

Seven minutes into extra time Godfrey scored a messy goal, when Gary Fisken's shot bounced off his face, and ended up in the back of the net.

Plucky Ryan Moran then headed an equaliser for Wood, but three minutes later Watford went back in front.

Canadian international Godfrey scored from eight yards out to complete his hat-trick from a Jason Norville cross.

Just before the extra time break Godfrey netted a fourth. Wood had chances towards the end of the game, but were foiled by the Hornets' keeper.
