BOREHAM Wood came up just short on Tuesday as they lost 2-1 to AFC Hornchurch.

Boreham Wood Manager Ian Allinson made two changes to his starting line-up for this away match, writes John D Gill.

Left back Daniel Brathwaite came in for Chris Watters and striker Jamie Richards made his debut in place of Reggie Savage.

Soz Yao struck a free kick which curled towards goal, but Tony Tucker was alert to the danger and punched it clear.

Midway through the first half, Wood opened up Hornchurch when Mario Noto played a cross field pass to Jamie Richards, who could only shoot weakly.

Wood kept the pressure on AFC Hornchurch and forced two successive corners, one on each side of the goal.

But they went behind on the half hour mark.

Wood's Daniel Brathwaite and keeper Tony Tucker had a communication melt-down which allowed Paul Shave to pounce on the loose ball and fire the ball home.

Wood came out for the second half on a mission Three minutes after the restart Lee Allinson's cross found Jamie Richards unmarked at the far post, with a great right wing cross.

Richards' strike skimmed the top of the crossbar.

On 53 minutes, Hornchurch increased their lead.

Against the run of play, Joe Stevens rose and doubled Hornchurch's lead with a header at the far post.

Lee Allinson pulled one back for Wood just five minutes later.

Dean Green, wide on the right, played the ball inside to Allinson, who unleashed an unstoppable shot into the bottom left hand corner of the goal from twenty-five yards out.

From this point on Wood went in search of an equaliser. A rare breakaway by Paul Shave ended with his shot at goal being brilliantly tipped over the crossbar by Tucker.

Wood finished the game in all out attack but despite going close on several occasions, they could not find the goal.

The 2-1 result means Wood are still hunting for their first win of the season.
