Arsenal 2 Tranmere Rovers 0

FA Women's Premier LeagueArsenal lacked their usual clinical finishing, which would have seen them win the game by a much larger margin.

The Gunners could have been two goals ahead before Angela Banks scored the first goal on nine minutes, from a pass laid on by Faye White.

Tranmere created chances, but excellent work in goal by Emma Byrne, making an essential save in the 25th minute, and Faye White, blocking a shot from Sue Smith shortly after, ensured Arsenal stayed in front.

Arsenal increased their lead just before half-time with an unstoppable volley by Angela Banks.

The second half saw a similar story to the first, with chances going begging for Arsenal. Tranmere had a few chances and came closest when Emma Byrne cleared a goal-bound shot and Leanne Champ blocked the follow-up on the line.

Despite the substitution of Emma Coss, replacing an injured Ciara Grant, and Meg Ogawa replacing Jayne Ludlow, and Ellen Maggs replacing Marieanne Spacey, they could not increase their lead.

Arsenal were worthy winners on the day and the victory resulted in the lady Gunners going to the top of the National League.
