Borehamwood Bowls Club lost a closely contested league match 56-55 to Abbotts Langley on Sunday.
This match went right down to the wire, with Langley's skip drawing the closing shot from Wood's Roy Edwards to give the game to the home side.
However, it was better news for Borehamwood in the Friday Night League, with a 38-5 win over Oxhey.
Borehamwood's Colin Williams and Arthur Moseley emerged as 18-17 victors in the first round of the St Albans and District pairs competition.
After 21 ends, the match was deadlocked at 17-all, however, the Borehamwood duo triumphed when an extra end was played.
