Boreham Wood extended their National League unbeaten run to seven games as a goal in each half helped them to a 2-0 victory away at Dover Athletic on Saturday.

Sorba Thomas’ penalty put the Wood in the lead before Justin Shaibu doubled the advantage just prior to the hour mark.

The win lifts Luke Garrard’s side to within a point of the play-off spots behind both FC Halifax Town and Stockport County.

Wood thought they had taken the lead after just 11 minutes when top scorer Kabongo Tshimanga fired home, but he was denied by the offside flag.

He then proceeded to miss a glorious chance from six yards, but minutes later the visitors were awarded a penalty when Kurtis Cumberbatch committed a foul, allowing Thomas to step up and score.

Tyrone Marsh had the first chance of the second half but was unlucky to see his effort whistle wide of the post.

Shortly after though, Shaibu doubled Wood’s advantage when he slotted into an empty net from Tshimanga’s pass.

Success sees Wood win on the road for the first time since October while Dover remain at the lower end of mid-table.

Meanwhile for Wood, defender Jordan Thompson has been recalled from his loan spell by parent club Coventry City.

The decision was made in talks held last week after starts for Thompson had become limited during Wood’s excellent run over seven games unbeaten.

Next up for Wood is an FA Trophy tie away at Royston Town on Saturday.
