Boreham Wood have been shocked by the departure of Conor Clifford from their ranks, with the Irishman returning to his native Dublin to join league champions Dundalk.
The 25-year-old last featured for Luke Garrard's side against Aldershot Town in early December, and has since spent time away from the club in Ireland for personal reasons.
Chairman Danny Hunter told the club's website: “In truth we didn’t want Conor to leave us.
"That said, I spoke with him at length and he just felt he’d been away from his native Dublin for over 10 years now, and it was time for him to return home."
Elsewhere, the club has completed the signing of imposing striker Tom Hitchcock, with the 24-year-old Hemel Hempstead-born target man most recently with MK Dons.
He left the Buckinghamshire club in the summer and was on trial at Port Vale earlier this month before completing his move to Meadow Park.
