Boreham Wood finally got their trip to Barrow on Tuesday evening and returned with a creditable goalless draw just three days after losing 2-0 at home to the same opponents.

Their National League fixture at Holker Street was twice lost to the weather before Wood finally made their longest trip of the season, 550 miles there and back, to pick up another point in the battle against the drop.

Speaking afterwards, manager Luke Garrard said: “The reaction from the boys today after Saturday’s disappointing performance was fantastic.

"We learnt a lot from Saturday and Clovis (Kamdjo) was instrumental in stopping the supply to their man threat."

Debutant Danny Haynes, signed on loan from Ebbsfleet United earlier in the week, started in place of the only partially fit Anthony Jeffrey.

Reflecting on the former Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic forward's first game for the club, Garrard said: “He impressed me tonight with his performance and he has the ability to run at defenders and take them on.

"He will certainly have a big part to play for us till the end of the season."

Garrard also praised the Wood defence, which is the sixth-best in the National League.

“Once again they put in a massive performance and for everything thrown at them they didn’t really look troubled," said Garrard.

"Now it's onto Wrexham Saturday. We go there in a fine bit of form away from home.

"Our performances away from home, especially in 2016, have been fantastic; winning two and drawing three without conceding. So we go there knowing we are capable of picking up three points."

Very little football was played with Barrow looking to get the ball into the Wood box at every opportunity. But they found the Wood back four in fine form.

Wood started on the front foot carrying on from where they left off at Southport. Conor Clifford, who drove the Wood side on all evening, had the first shot in the game in the second minute though he was off target.

The first of many Barrow long balls into the box followed with Dave Stephens on hand to head away the danger.

Clifford then gave away a free kick in a dangerous area. The dangerous Jordan Williams stood over the ball and forced a fine save from keeper James Russell.

The ball was lobbed back into the box and Joe Devera defended well. The home side wanted a penalty for handball which the referee waved away.

The pacey Haynes found space out wide and Dan Woodards, on the overlap, put the ball in to the box for Ricky Shakes who fired wide under pressure.

Haynes had a great chance to give the Wood the lead. A free kick taken out wide by Clifford found the unmarked attacker six yards from goal. However, he failed to hit the target with his header.

Delano Sam-Yorke should have given the Wood the lead when, from six yards out after a scuffle in the box, he scuffed his shot straight at the keeper.

In the second period Barrow came out all guns blazing putting real pressure on the Wood defence with a series of corners which were all well dealt with.

A rare breakaway saw a chance for the normally reliable Luke Howell who, after scoring three in his previous four, couldn't beat keeper Joel Dixon.

Next, Haynes got away down the right and played the ball superbly across the box for Howell at the back post. Again he couldn’t quite sort his feet out to get a shot on goal.

Clovis Kamdjo came to the Wood’s rescue with a perfectly timed tackle after a flick on in the box allowed Ben Tomlinson, scorer of the Bluebirds' first on Saturday, to clear.

Wood keeper Russell had to be alert from a Barrow free kick to tip over an effort from Williams which looked to be heading for the top corner.

The visitors' final chance came through Haynes. Sam-Yorke won a flick on and the debutant latched onto ball before firing over the Barrow crossbar.

Barrow came close to taking all three points late on when a corner to the back post found Tomlinson who rose above his marker to head towards goal. However, Russell produced a fine save to deny the Barnet loanee.

Manager Garrard replaced Haynes with Forest Green Rovers-bound Jeffrey for the final ten minutes and his pace had the Barrow defence on the back foot form the outset.

After being set free down the left he got to the byline and put in a cross but no sky blue Boreham Wood shirts were on hand to convert.

Four minutes of time were added on but both sides cancelled each other out in the search for maximum points.

With the way the other results went it’s another point towards safety for Wood who are a point clear of the bottom four in 19th place.
