I would like to challenge statements in the Labour newspaper circulating ahead of the elections.

I organised five meetings so that residents could find out the facts about the Elstree Way Corridor. They were open to all and at different times of the day so that it was possible for all to attend and they were held at various locations.

Residents were encouraged to respond to the consultation process.

The clerk and members of the environment and planning committee meet three times a year with borough planners. That is set to be increased to quarterly meetings.

The transport forum meets every four months, but the proposal is to increase this to a meeting every three months.

Town councillors are starting projects for young people in the community.

The town has funded activities with Community Action Hertsmere, Hertsmere Leisure, the scouts and Hertswood Academy during the holidays.

The purchase of past mayors’ badges was discussed at the general management committee of the town council and agreed unanimously, with no votes against or abstentions from either party.

When neither the mayor or deputy is available to represent the town at functions, then a past mayor attends.

Town councillors of both parties have worked hard to ensure that the voice of town residents counts both at borough and county levels.
