NEWSQUEST is looking for a trainee reporter to help lead its online coverage in Cheshire.

Every day our online newsbrands reach millions of people right across the UK, and you’ll be joining a team of driven, innovative journalists taking our content to the next level.

Based primarily in our Warrington office as well as in the field, you will be working on titles including the Runcorn and Widnes World as well as the award-winning Warrington Guardian.

This role presents an exciting opportunity for a trainee journalist brimming with ideas to unearth the best breaking news, features, leisure and trending stories from across the patch.

You’ll help to deliver the sort of fast and dynamic coverage that our readers expect and deserve in 2020.

A big part of the job will be immersing yourself in social media to help you tell your stories, develop relationships in your area and discover what it is that gets your community talking.

This is an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in the community and give them the news they want, when they want it.

As part of our training you will learn to write high quality, accurate news stories, live blogs and features, as well as developing a range of digital skills for our websites and social media.

The position is ideal for an NCTJ student who has recently finished, or is on track, to finish their preliminary qualifications (including 100wpm shorthand and media law).

The ideal candidate will have a good writing style and the ability to write and think quickly under pressure.

We want someone with a keen news sense and the ability to generate new ideas independently.

Strong digital and video skills along with a knowledge of SEO and its importance to digital journalism is important, but so is having great people skills and the ability to get on with a wide range of people in the community.

The successful candidate will be given on the job training, working towards the NQJ senior journalism qualification after two years.

The closing date for applications is Friday, January 17.
