A PENSIONER was visited by the mayor for her 100th birthday celebration in Harrow on Saturday.
Laura Silverman, known as Lola, was visited by Councillor Mrinal Choudhury for the occasion.
Mrs Silverman was born in Poland on January 7, 1912, and moved to Vienna at a young age.
She came to England in 1938 and lived and worked in Scotland briefly as a maid.
She married her husband Toby and became a farrier when she moved to Finchley shortly after.
Lorraine Regan, who looks after her at her retirement home, said: "I often pop in to see if she's ok and she is very much sound in mind.
"She's a very happy person so that could be the secret of her long life.
"She's also worked hard all her life so that may have helped by keeping her active.
"Everybody loves her and it was great to celebrate her birthday."
