A MAN from Harrow was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court yesterday to eight years in prison for raping two teenagers he met on Facebook.

Kirran Reid, 21, of College Hill Road, was arrested in January last year after raping a 16-year-old girl he had met on social networking site Facebook.

He then breached his bail conditions by using social networking sites before befriending his second victim, also a 16-year-old girl, in May last year. Both girls were from Hertfordshire.

Along with the eight-year sentence, a five-year extended licence was also passed on Reid which means he will be supervised after being released from prison.

He will also be put on the Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which will prevent him from contacting either of the teenagers in this case.

It will also prevent him from staying anywhere where a girl under the age of 18 lives and will also force him to give up any computer, phone or camera he uses to police.

He has also been put on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.

Detective Inspector Steve Keating, of the Sexual Offences Investigation Unit at Hertfordshire Police, warned of the dangers of social networking.

He said: “Reid knowingly befriended two teenage girls on a social networking site before subjecting them to what was an extremely harrowing experience for both of them.

“Having his licence extended by five years upon his release indicates the gravity of his actions that he poses as a serious risk to young girls.”
