A CHARITY worker who has raised thousands of pounds for Cancer Research has said he was “completely bowled over” after being honoured with an MBE.

Leslie Moss, 59, from Pinner, helps to organise Relay for Life Harrow, which holds race events every year to raise money for Cancer Research in which more than 4,000 people take part.

Mr Moss has been fundraising for the charity for more than 40 years.

The father-of-three said: “I was very excited to receive the news and couldn’t believe it. I was completely bowled over.

“Since 2006 I have helped to organise the Relay for Life Harrow, which is an event that happens across the country, and we have raised around £400,000 since we started.

"I've found if you raise money for charity by putting on a fun event people will want to donate.

"Many have been very generous with their donations and this has been wonderful for the charity.

“A mutual friend of my wife and me had a brain tumour and died when I was 18. I started to raise money after that.

"My wife is more excited at the award than I am and is getting ready for the event when I collect the award next month.

“It’s overwhelming to receive the award."
