MEMBERS of the community are being invited to a Tamil festival to be held next Saturday in Harrow.
The event, Thai Pongal, is held every year on January 14 to honour the sun.
Families gather to celebrate by offering pongal, a dish consisting of rice and milk.
Councillor Krishna Suresh, who is helping to organise the event on behalf of the Harrow Tamil community, said: “It was an excellent festival last year with about 150 people there.
“I’m hoping we can get about the same and maybe more this year. The cultural performances are the most important part of this and people will find it interesting learning about the event.”
The Thai Pongal Community Celebration will be held between 6pm and 9pm in Harrow Council Chamber, at the Civic Centre, in Station Road.
