A computer system which helps Hertfordshire County Council to hire home help contractors has been shortlisted for a national award. The system works out where the people who need a home help worker live, and where the nearest carers are based. The county delivers 10,000 hours of care to 6,000 adults every week, and the system has saved countless hours of administrative work since it was piloted in April 2001.
