New recycling banks for bras have been installed across the borough to help raise money for a breast cancer awareness charity.

Bras donated to bright pink recycling banks based in Borehamwood, Radlett and Shenley, will be recycled with the money donated to the Breast Cancer Campaign. Some of the bras will also be donated to women in poorer countries.

Councillor Jean Heywood, Hertsmere Borough Council’s environment portfolio holder, said: “This is a fantastic project and it just shows that you can recycle just about everything.

“By recycling your bras not only will less waste be sent to landfill but women in poorer countries will benefit and you will be helping to fund research into breast cancer.

“So next time you pop out to the shops or the gym, or go to your local recycling centre, take your old bras with you and pop them in one of the pink banks. You really can't miss them.”

Women are being told to put any bras in a bag before they are put in the recycling banks.

Bra banks in Borehamwood are located in the reception of the borough council’s civic offices, in Elstree Way, and in both the women's changing rooms and car park at The Venue, in Elstree Way.

In Radlett women can donate their bras at recycling points in the reception at Aldenham Parish Council offices at the Radlett Centre, in Aldenham Avenue, and at Newberries car park, in Watling Street.

In Shenley a recycling bank is available in Andrew Close, off Porters Park Drive.
