Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue service is to work with British Telecom to cut the number of hoax emergency calls. Last year Hertfordshire's firefighters rushed to more than 500 hoax calls. The calls are dangerous, because firefighers are unable to deal with a genuine fire when they are called to a hoax. BT will work out which of its phone kiosks are regularly used to make hoax calls, and put posters in them to put people off making fake 999 calls.
