The birth of a baby girl to the widow of murder-victim Wayne Trotter has led to a heart-rending police appeal for information on the identity of the killers.

Mayor of Hertsmere Stuart Nagler has also announced that he hopes, in co-operation with police, to send a letter to every household in the town appealing for information.

Following the birth of healthy Enya Kayleigh at Barnet Hospital on Thursday morning last week, Det Supt Steve Read said: "We still believe there are people on the estate, and from other estates in the town, who know who is responsible for Wayne's murder but, for whatever reason, they have not yet come forward and told us all they know.

"I would now ask those people to think about Enya. This little girl will never meet and never know her father.

"Her family need to know why Wayne was taken from them and those responsible need to be punished for what they have done."

The detective said the greatest tragedy was police could not tell Enya why her father had been killed, apart from seemingly being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Wayne Trotter, who has also left a three-year-old son, James, died after being set on fire on the Farriers Way estate in December last year.

Det Supt Read said: "It is a time of mixed emotions for Ann and the family.

"On the one hand, they are over the moon at the safe arrival of Enya, especially after the complications Ann suffered immediately after Wayne's murder.

"But on the other hand, they feel huge sadness that Wayne is no longer with them to share in the birth of his daughter."

He said 40 officers continued to work on "promising" lines of enquiry and new information was still coming in.
