On this day in 2014, Aldenham Country Park took the first steps towards plans to build a pond dipping area.
Borehamwood and Elstree Town councillors visited the park on May 14 to help with the launch of the new plans to develop the existing pond at the on-site farm.
The country park, located in Dagger Lane in Elstree, is a popular destination for schools, and the park’s community organiser, Olivier Behzadi, expressed his enthusiasm for the project.
He said: "We have a lot of school trips coming to the park and wanted to provide something new for them, like a pond dipping area.
"We soon realised that we already had our own pond ready made for us, it was perfect."
The proposed pond dipping area would be accessed by a gate onto a raised platform extending over the pond, which will require a considerable amount of construction work.
A plaque identifying the creatures that can be found in the pond has already been installed.
It is hoped that the work will have been completed by the beginning of the summer holidays, providing an exciting new educational resource for visiting schoolchildren.
