On this day in 2014, Elstree and Borehamwood Town Council held its annual meeting, where the election of a new mayor and deputy mayor was announced.

Councillor Clive Butchins stepped down from his role as mayor, expressing that it had been "a pleasure" to attend numerous events during his tenure.

He reflected on his time in office, stating, "I have strived to be a good representative and I hope I have got somewhere close to this.

"Being able to go out and meet so many people has been a joy and I shall always treasure my time as mayor."

Cllr Butchins extended his gratitude to the council staff who supported him throughout his term before passing the responsibilities to Cllr Pat Strack, who was elected as the new mayor.

Cllr Richard Butler was elected as the new deputy mayor, set to work alongside Cllr Strack.

Additionally, the annual meeting served to elect cabinet members for the upcoming year, marking a significant transition for the council.
