A road that shut due to flooding is set to stay closed until the end of the week.

Parts of the A41 and neighbouring Elstree Road in Bushey became submerged this morning (October 17) after a water main burst.

Police had to be called to help drivers and manage road closures, with a roundabout left flooded. The nearby Lismirrane Industrial Park in Elstree is also believed to have been heavily impacted.

Most of the traffic delays have now cleared and the A41 is open and running.

However, Affinity Water says emergency repairs will keep Elstree Road shut.

The water supplier said: “We're carrying out emergency repairs to a burst water main on Elstree Road in Bushey.

"For the safety of our team and road users, the repair will be completed under a road closure between Heathbourne Road and the A41 North Western Avenue. We're sorry for any delays to your journeys.”

Hertfordshire County Council has granted Affinity Water a permit of until Friday October 21 to get that section of Elstree Road back open.

Drivers are diverting via Wood Lane and Brockley Hill in Stanmore, making these roads busier than usual.

Elstree Road was also closed - as of 5pm - in the direction of Elstree with work being carried out to clear water. However, it's understood this section of Elstree Road will be able to reopen soon.
