Flooding has been causing major delays after several roads were forced to close.

Police were called to help manage problems between Elstree and Bushey this morning (October 17) after some roads and a roundabout were left underwater.

The flooding, caused by a burst water main, has affected the roundabout where the A41 and Elstree Road meet.

Several roads to and from the roundabout have been affected, with closures in place where there has been standing water.

A picture shows some drivers appear to have abandoned their vehicles at the side of the road.

Among the roads believed to be shut this morning were Elstree Road and the A41 towards the Esso petrol station.

Traffic has been very slow in the area and drivers are advised to avoid the Elstree Road/A41 roundabout while the incident remains ongoing.

Water supplier Affinity Water has warned a closure will stay in place.

In a tweet, the company said: "We're carrying out emergency repairs to a burst water main on Elstree Road in Bushey.

"For the safety of our team and road users, the repair will be completed under a road closure between Heathbourne Road and the A41 North Western Avenue. We're sorry for any delays to your journeys."

The permit to shut Elstree Road lasts until Friday October 21.
