Two men have been arrested after reports of someone believed to have been holding a gun by a busy roundabout in Hertfordshire.

Armed police were called to the A414 by the London Colney bypass after the man, described as wearing a long trench coat and cowboy hat, was seen at around 3pm yesterday (September 21).

The road was shut and two men were arrested at the scene.

Detective Inspector Adrian Lysak said: “Understandably, a report of this nature is likely to cause significant concern among the local community and I am aware that there has been some speculation on social media regarding the large police presence in the area.

“Officers conducted a thorough search of the area, utilising the specially trained firearms detection dogs, and no weapons were found.

“We have arrested two men in connection with this incident, and they remain in police custody at this time. A thorough investigation is now underway.”

Several people are suspected to have witnessed the incident and have been urged to contact officers as soon as possible.

Those with dashcam footage from around the area at the time have also been asked to come forward.
