More than 40 volunteers have helped transform a dining room at a care home in Borehamwood.
A mural of a beach scene has been painted on the walls at Forest Village Care Home in Cardinal Avenue.
The walls have been coloured bright yellow with children from the Kaytana summer camp among those to flex their artistic muscles and lighten up the room.
Sheara Abrahams, who helped organise the project, said: “The residents of the care home had requested a beach scene so I designed a mural for the largest wall and decided to paint two of the other walls shades of bright yellow in an attempt to make the room feel joyful and inspiring.
“Everyone played their part bringing this to life, whether painting sections of the mural or helping to roller the solid coloured walls. It was very much a team effort.”
Khristian Rawlings from Wickes kindly donated all the paint and supplies needed to bring the mural to life.
On August 12, the mayor of Elstree & Borehamwood, Cllr Sandra Parnell, was invited to unveil the work.
Sheara added: “The room was blocked off and windows covered over in order to make it a proper surprise for residents.
“It was quite an emotional moment, not just for me as I was so nervous about how the design would be received, but also for the staff who were overwhelmed in the moment knowing that this room would now be so much more uplifting and such a happy space to use in the future.”
