A car showroom and workshop is to be created on a business park after planning permission was granted.

An empty warehouse unit at Centennial Park in Elstree will be refurbished and extended and become a dealership.

The showroom will sell new and used vehicles from Volvo and the Swedish car manufacturer's electric offshoot Polestar.

Along with a showroom, the development will also provide a workshop, MOT services, valeting, office space, and 154 car parking spaces in total.

Planning papers state the new facility has the potential to create 80 full-time jobs.

Hertsmere Borough Council's planning committee unanimously approved the application at a meeting on August 18.

During a discussion on the application, Conservative councillor Seamus Quilty said it would be a "real problem" if transporters ended up blocking Centennial Avenue when dropping off vehicles.

Council officers reassured Cllr Quilty a condition will limit vehicles into Centennial Park to 7.5 tonnes, with the applicant agreeing to use an off-site facility to transport vehicles between lorries.

Cllr Quilty's colleague David Lambert, along with Lib Dem Jerry Evans and Labour's Christian Gray, called for solar panels to be put on the roof of the dealership - the council is set to push for this to become a reality.
