A fire at a derelict building in Borehamwood is being treated as arson.

Firefighters were called to a property in Theobald Street on Monday evening after reports of a fire.

Police were also called in after crews suspected the fire had been started deliberately.

Detective Inspector Beth Hannah, from the Hertsmere Local Crime Unit, said: “We suspect that a number of small fires were set within the building and we believe it happened sometime between 8pm and 9.15pm(August 22).

“Thankfully no one was injured but this reckless behaviour could have had a very different outcome.”

Theobald Street was closed in both directions by police between the junctions of Borehamwood Shopping Park and Shenley Road while the fire was put out.

Officers are working to find those responsible for starting the fire and people who were in the area and may have seen something suspicious, or who have dashcam or doorbell or CCTV footage are being asked to come forward.
