A person has died after being hit by a train in the early morning.

Emergency services were called at 6.22am today (August 17) to Elstree and Borehamwood station to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

A British Transport Police spokesperson confirmed that a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The force said: “Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

All lines were blocked this morning as the incident was dealt with.

While services later resumed, Thameslink is now facing delays and cancellations again, which National Rail says is due to “a number of incidents”, which include the death and a current fire near the railway at London Bridge.
