ALBION striker Danielle Carter has admitted that she was not at her best during her debut campaign with the club and is hopeful of regaining her best form next term.

In 21 Women's Super League appearances Carter only found the net on two occasions as well as assisting one goal.

While Carter believes she worked hard for the team, she is not happy with her form in front of goal.

The 29-year-old told BHAFC: “I don’t think I was anywhere near the best version of me last year.

“I worked hard and put in a shift for the team every time I played, but there’s more to come. Hopefully with some new signings we can bounce off each other and bring the best out of each other as a group.

“It was good to be back playing regularly last season. Collectively we were one point off the club’s record WSL tally, so that was unfortunate and put a bit of a downer on it. But overall it was decent season and one to build on.”

The ex Arsenal and Reading striker is looking forward to seeing new players come into the club during the transfer window as a few of Albion's regulars left the club at the end of the season.

She said: “It’s going to be interesting, because a lot of girls who have been a core part of the team have left.

“The atmosphere that Hope and the staff have created with the players is amazing, so it’s going to be important that we get the new players settled in quickly and make sure that they fit into our system.

“It’s a family type team, the girls are great, we have brilliant characters. Everyone puts in 100% and wants to do well for the team, and I know the players we bring in will be of that mindset.”

Carter is now one of the club's most experienced WSL players and she wants to become one of the leaders in Hope Powell's squad.

She said: “When I came here I knew it was going to be a completely different role to what I have done before.

“I know it was my first season, but I am one of the senior players with a lot of experience.

“I would imagine it will be the same this season, if anything more will be asked of me.

“I am going to be a part of the group who helps the new players settle in.”
