“Heartbroken” colleagues have paid tribute to a nurse who said there was nothing about her job she did not enjoy.

Gill Simpson provided care and support for patients at Theobald Medical Centre ever since she joined the surgery in 2005.

But the medical centre confirmed that Gill, 58, passed away on May 21 following an unexpected illness.

Hundreds of comments flooded in on Facebook thanking Gill for her warmth and kindness and a number of her colleagues have also paid tribute.

Gill, who lived in Potters Bar, worked as a practice nurse having trained as a nurse in northern England where she hailed from.

She learnt her trade at The Friarage in North Yorkshire, where she stayed until 2001, before a spell at Longrove Surgery in High Barnet, before moving to Theobald.

Dr Dipak Kapacee, GP at Theobald Medical Centre, said, “Gill was an extremely senior and valued member of the practice team. This is a tragic loss, and she will be really missed by myself, all her colleagues and all the patients. RIP Gill.”

The surgery says Gill’s kindness was summed up when she was asked in an appraisal what she did not enjoy about her job.

Gill, mother to Rachael, who passed away in March, and Kathryn, replied: “There are no aspects I don’t enjoy.”

Borehamwood Times:

Practice manager Eileen Owens said: “Gill and I became very close over the last four years, and it honestly breaks my heart that she was taken so unexpectedly. Her amazing smile and laugh will stay with me forever. Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything.”

Senior receptionist Fatima Nobrega described Gill as a “fundamental part of the surgery” and says she will never be forgotten.

Caroline Houston and Sam Rees, who work as cleaners at the surgery, say they will “dearly miss” Gill adding she has left a “huge hole” at the practice.

A memorial service is being held at 2.30pm on Monday June 20 at Enfield Crematorium celebrating Gill’s life. The service is open to attend and Gill’s family have asked those who wish to go to wear blue in honour of Gill’s devotion as an NHS worker.

Any donations in Gill’s name are being requested to be made to Hertsmere Mencap, a charity greatly appreciated by Gill.
