A crash shut a section of the North Circular this morning causing major traffic disruption.

The Brent Cross flyover was in both directions at Staples Corner in north west London since around 6am.

Police say a lorry struck the central reservation on the flyover, damaging a lamppost. The vehicle also needed recovering. There are no reports of injuries.

The A406 was shut for much of the morning in both directions, causing queues stretching as far as Hanger Lane and Finchley.

There were also delays of over an hour on the M1 southbound approaching Staples Corner.

And local routes in places such as Golders Green, Colindale, Brent Cross, and Neasden were also significantly affected.

The flyover reopened shortly after 11am and most of the delays have now cleared although drivers should check before they travel as the Brent Cross area is still slower than usual for this time of day.

Meanwhile, a bit further north, the roadworks on the A41 in Edgware are once again causing problems.

New lane closures at Apex Corner came into force yesterday (Tuesday) causing chaos on the A41 and A1 affecting Mill Hill, Edgware, Hendon, and Borehamwood. Local roads in Edgware ,Mill Hill, Stanmore, and Elstree were also affected.

Delays are lengthy again this morning, with this phase of work by Transport for London scheduled to continue into mid-June at the earliest.

The queues on the M1 south from junction 4 have also been causing more motorists than usual to head onto the A41 towards Apex Corner.
