At St Albans Crown Court on February 23, Ferlisha Thomas, 41, from Station Road, Borehamwood, and a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm (GBH).

They had initially been arrested on October 19 and charged with attempted murder.

In court on April 22, Thomas received a prison sentence of three years and three months while the teenager was handed a five-year term.

Detective Sergeant Emma Alston from the domestic abuse investigation unit, who investigated the case, said: "This was nasty attack which has left a lasting impact on the victim, who had previously been romantically linked to Thomas.

"Thankfully he has at least been spared the ordeal of going through a trial and I hope these sentences can bring him a sense of closure."
