There are severe delays for drivers travelling through Borehamwood town centre because of roadworks.

Temporary traffic lights have been installed in Shenley Road at the junction with Furzehill Road.

The work is causing major disruption in Shenley Road, Allum Lane, and Theobald Street.

Affinity Water is responsible for the work being carried out according to traffic data management website One Network.

The work is described as "essential maintenance" and it does not look like the work was planned ahead.

Anyone travelling through this part of Borehamwood should leave plenty of extra time.

It was really busy during this morning's rush hour but the delays have continued throughout the morning and into the early afternoon.

In particular, there are delays for motorists leaving Borehamwood Shopping Park because of traffic in Theobald Street going towards the train station.

Allum Lane from Elstree is also affected as is Shenley Road in both directions.

Affinity Water has been granted a permit of until Monday April 25 to complete the work but it could be done sooner or later than that date.
