Dozens have people have signed a petition calling for a pedestrian crossing to be created in Borehamwood.

The petition states a stretch of Shenley Road near a park and new housing development is "difficult and dangerous" to cross.

Jan Majkowski, who started the petition, says Hertfordshire County Council should "consider" putting in traffic lights with a pedestrian crossing because of the increased number of people walking in this area.

He wrote: "A short stretch of Shenley Road between Holmsley Road and Meadow Road became a frequent, difficult and dangerous crossing point for residents of Borehamwood.

"This came about because of an increased population in the area after Hertsmere Mews, an estate of over 300 homes, was completed in 2020.

"Also, this estate consists of a cut-through leading to Elstree Way, making it an attractive route for parents walking with children to any of the three primary schools located in the vicinity of Meadow Park."

Mr Majkowski added: "Finally, an extra hazard in the spot exists because of cars parking on double-yellow lines at Shenley Road and - as a result of vehicles entering the junction from any of the four ways leading to the spot.

"It is important that Hertfordshire County Council considers building traffic lights-enabled pedestrian crossing in this spot."

The petition on Change.org has been signed by 78 people so far after being started earlier this month.

The closest pedestrian lights to where Mr Majkowski is calling for new ones to be installed is in Shenley Road by Hertsmere Borough Council's offices, as well as by the junction with Thrift Farm Lane.
