Five eye surgeons are bringing their skill and expertise – together with some of the most advanced diagnostic equipment anywhere in the UK – to Elstree with the opening of a new clinic.

The OCL Vision clinic, which features four treatment and consultation rooms, is the latest addition to the fast-growing healthcare cluster in Centennial Park.

The private clinic is the first to be opened outside London with OCL Vision's existing site off Harley Street, which has been noted since the 19th century for its large number of private specialists in medicine and surgery

The new base in Elstree will offer consultations with two ophthalmic surgeons who already operate private clinics in Hertfordshire, laser correction specialist Dr Allon Barsam and Dr Susan Sarangapani, who specialises in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

They will be joined by Dr Sally Ameen, who will perform cataract surgery and glaucoma treatment on site, and the retinal specialists Dr Chien Wong and Dr Rabia Bourkiza, who will also be performing cataract surgery at the "state-of-the-art" venue.

Dr Barsam said: "Our Elstree clinic is equipped with some of the most sophisticated diagnostic equipment in the world, as well as the tools we need to perform advanced cataract and lens replacement surgery. Specialist centres of excellence like our Elstree clinic are the future of eye surgery, and over time we expect more highly skilled surgeons to join us.

"I’ve treated patients from Hertfordshire, North London and across the Home Counties for many years, and I’m looking forward to welcoming many more to our world-class facilities in Elstree – and helping even more people enjoy the life-changing benefits of better vision."

OCL Vision says demand for private care has soar as the NHS faces huge backlogs of patients. Data from NHS England reveals in January, 6.1 million patients who had been referred for hospital treatment were still waiting to be seen – the highest number on record.
