Plans for a splash park in Borehamwood's biggest park are moving forward with hopes it will be ready to open to the public in 2022.

The splash park forms part of Hertsmere Borough Council's wider £2 million regeneration of Meadow Park.

The latest application is for more than 20 splash pads, water jets, fountains and other play features to be installed near the toddler's play area.

The council gave the go-ahead to progress with plans for a splash park in March this year and now the final scheme has been drawn up ready to be considered for approval.

Free to use, the council intends for the splash park to be open seven days a week between 10am and 6pm between the May bank holiday and September every year - but potentially from Easter dependent on the weather.

However, a date is yet to be set of when it will officially open but it is hoped to be in 2022.

There would be seating around the splash pads for parents and children and the splash park would be surrounded by a one metre fence to separate those inside from other park users and dogs.

The splash park will be situated between the toddler play area and multi-sports courts with changing facilities also set to be provided. A plant room will have to be created in order for equipment to be installed to operate the splash park.

Developments at Meadow Park have already seen new play areas, sports courts, a fitness area, and a new bandstand created.

On the way is a BMX track and a cafe and kiosk at the former bowls club pavilion.

CCTV at the park is also being upgraded.

Speaking at the Executive meeting earlier this year, Cllr Caroline Clapper, said: "I think this is going to make a tremendous difference to the residents. I think this is a huge investment from the council in Borehamwood.

"As the portfolio holder for leisure, culture, health (at the time), I think there are benefits of this open green space for the physical health and very much mental health of our residents and our children. It’s just going to be incredible so I’m extremely supportive of this."
