Around 100 gift boxes will be ready to be delivered in the run-up to Christmas - with charitable organisers looking to give to those spending the festive season alone.

Food collection and distribution charity Gratitude has teamed up with Hertfordshire County Council to make up the boxes which will include festive food, essential goods, candles, and smellies.

Anu Joshi, who volunteers with Gratitude, says she would like to give the boxes to elderly people who are living in Borehamwood and who are alone.

She said: "When I was a little kid, we used to make these gift boxes in school and then they used to send us out to knock on doors and we'd go in and sit with the elderly and have a cup of tea with them.

"I remember the look on their faces and giving them a little bit of joy over Christmas and we'd like to do that again.

"We are trying to spread a little joy to anyone who may be feeling isolated and lonely over the Christmas period."

Gratitude says all of the food in the boxes will be vegetarian and they aim to deliver them between December 16 and 23.
