More walk-in Covid vaccination clinics available in Borehamwood

Anyone aged over 16 is welcome to walk in to the Allum Hall NHS vaccination centre without an appointment and grab a jab.

The opportunity is available to any over 16s who have yet to receive one dose of the Covid vaccine or for anyone who had their first dose at least eight weeks before the date of the walk-in clinic.

The Pfizer jab will be available along with Astra Zeneca.

The first walk-in clinic takes place tomorrow (Saturday August 21) at Allum Hall ((WD6 3PJ) from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

Further clinics will be held on Wednesday August 25 between 5.30pm and 8.30pm, as well as on Saturday August 28 from 9.30am until 12.30pm.

No booking is necessary and there is no need to show ID or be registered with a GP.

More than 70,000 doses have been handed out at Allum Hall ever since it was transformed into a vaccination centre earlier this year. It is Hertsmere's largest centre.

So far, more than 300 people have taken advantage of the walk-in clinic since it was introduced in Borehamwood in July.

However, Public Health England data has shown around a quarter of adults living in Borehamwood remain unvaccinated, while it is a fifth in Elstree and Aldenham.

Coronavirus infections are still circulating locally, with 122 Borehamwood residents testing positive in the seven days to August 14.

This is up from 106 over the seven days before that.

England's chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty tweeted today: "The great majority of adults have been vaccinated.

"Four weeks working on a Covid ward makes stark the reality that the majority of our hospitalised Covid patients are unvaccinated and regret delaying. Some are very sick including young adults.

"Please don’t delay your vaccine."

His comments came as new figures showed that 55 per cent people in hospital with the Delta variant – which is dominant in the UK – have not been jabbed.

The data from Public Health England also shows that 74 per cent of people under 50 in hospital with the variant had not been vaccinated.

Almost two thirds of people in the same age group who died in England with the Delta variant were not vaccinated against the virus, the figures show.
