A six-year-old has donated more than 40cm of her hair to a charity which provides free real hair wigs to children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

Nikki Nandha has seen her hair grow and grow ever since she was born but decided the time had come to lose some of her long locks.

The Borehamwood youngster decided she could put her long hair to important use, so to help poorly children, she pledged to donate around 40cm of her to the Little Princess Trust.

Nikki made her long-awaited visit to the hairdressers on May 18 and ended up donating 46cm of her, which is around 18 inches.

The youngster has also raised more than £1,200 for the Little Princess Trust, and is hoping to raise £1,500 altogether.

Speaking ahead of her hair cut, Nikki wrote on her Just Giving page: "My name is Nikki and I am 6-years-old. At 9-months-old, I had my hair cut to a grade zero and I have not had a hair cut since, apart from my fringe.

"I would like to donate it so that children have been poorly and have lost their hair, can get a wig. I know it’s hard for everyone at the moment so anything you can donate, will be appreciated lots. I am donating at least 40cm of the 71cm I've grown, on Tuesday the 18th of May 2021.

"I am really excited getting my haircut and nervous as I don't know what the short hair will look like, but I am ready to cut and donate it now. If my hair can make someone out there happy, I’m happy."

Nikki's mother Tina has described her daughter as an "inspiration" after she made the donation of her hair.

She said: "We are so proud of the incredible way that Nikki is growing up and learning about the challenges some people face. Even at such a young age, she is full of wisdom, kindness, compassion, and courage.

"For her it was more than just a hair cut and donation. She has learnt so much about the struggles of other children who lose their hair through illness and is so happy that her hair will help someone receive a wig and bring a smile to their face. When she learnt how much one wig cost, she also wanted to raise money and help the charity even more.

"She’s a inspiration to us all."
