The people behind a planning document that will help shape development over the coming years have thanked residents for their support.

The majority of residents in Radlett have voted to support the Radlett Neighbourhood Plan following the 2021 local elections held last week.

Due to the support it received, the policies in the plan will now be taken into account by Hertsmere Borough Council when new planning applications in the Radlett area are determined.

A total of 2,842 votes were cast, of which 2,127 were in favour of adopting the Radlett plan.

A spokesperson for the steering group in Radlett said: "It now means that, through the plan’s policies, the voices of Radlett residents will be strengthened in all planning matters, which will help to retain and enhance the verdant character of the area.

"The Radlett Plan has been a lot of hard work. It could not have happened without the many local residents who gave up their time to attend consultation events, sit on working parties or give important feed-back to the Steering Group.

"During this difficult year for so many, it has been evident just how important our footpaths, cycle lanes and greenbelt are in helping to make Radlett such a special place to live."

The steering group says the plan will be an important document going forward to "try and encourage a good mix of housing stock", so that first time buyers can "come and enjoy all that Radlett has to offer and those wishing to downsize can stay living in the place that they love".

Radlett Society & Green Belt Association, Aldenham Parish Council, Hertsmere Borough Council, and the Radlett Plan's consultant have also been thanked for the support given to the plan over the last few years.

The steering group added: "The Radlett Plan was produced by residents for all residents, no matter what their background or political allegiance. If you did not vote in favour, we hope that in time you can reap the benefit of the plan.

"Now, the hard work begins to ensure that the policies in the Radlett Plan are implemented and the objectives within it are met in an appropriate way.

Democracy is alive and kicking and the residents of Radlett have spoken."
