Two drivers were taken to hospital after a head-on smash in Shenley.

The emergency services were called to reports of a collision in Shenleybury at at around 5pm yesterday (Wednesday April 28).

Police say two vehicles were involved - a grey Vauxhall Corsa and a black Toyota GT86 - and the drivers of both vehicles were taken to hospital to have their injuries assessed.

The vehicles were facing each other, with significant damage caused to both. The photo shows the airbag in the Toyota had deployed.

The Vauxhall was facing in the direction of Shenley village and pictured at the crash scene on the wrong side of the road, while the Toyota was travelling out of Shenley towards the M25, although was pictured slightly in the bus stop lay-by.

Hertfordshire Constabulary says its collisions department will carry out an investigation into the crash.

Shenleybury was closed in both directions while emergency services attended the scene.

At least two ambulances attended alongside fire crews from Borehamwood and St Albans, and an air ambulance is also believed to have been called.

The extent of the injuries sustained by the drivers was not disclosed by police but a spokesperson confirmed they were taken to hospital.

The Toyota and Vauxhall were both recovered from the scene and the road reopened at around 7.40pm.
